The Cave – Usage Guidelines

Prior to participation, all users must attend an orientation on usage guidelines and common risks involved in strength training, the proper execution of various exercises, and the possible consequences if proper technique is not performed.

THE CAVE USAGE GUIDELINES

  • Wipe down bikes, benches, mats and other equipment after each use.
  • Use of locks or collars at the end of the bars is required.
  • Use bumper plates on the platforms for power-oriented exercises.
  • Move the weights from the racks to the bar only. Do not set plates down on the floor or lean them against equipment or walls.
  • Please remove plates from bar, when not in use.
  • Return dumbbells to the rack in their proper order.
  • Do not drop or throw weight plates or dumbbells.
  • Show respect for equipment and facilities at all times.
  • No equipment is to be stored or placed in front of garage door when not in direct use.
  • Do not engage in horseplay, or use of loud or offensive language.
  • Users are to wear proper training attire, particularly shirts and athletic shoes, at all times.
  • Have a spotter present, when necessary.
  • Users must immediately report any facility-related injury, facility or equipment irregularity to the supervisor on duty or Operations Coordinator.
  • Cell phone use is not permitted while training in the facility.
  • Food, drinks, and chewing gum are not permitted in activity area. Water and sports drinks are permitted in sealed non-glass containers.
  • Banned substances, alcohol, drugs, and all forms of tobacco are not permitted in the activity space. Participants who are considered under the influence will not be permitted to use this space.
  • Supervisors are not responsible for users’ personal belongings, lost or stolen items. Personal items such as bags, jackets and textbooks are not permitted in the space; please use lockers provided in change rooms.
  • Jewellery such as loose necklaces, bracelets, and hanging earrings should not be worn.
  • No person under the age of 16 may be in area, unless approved by the supervisor on duty or Operations Coordinator.
  • No person is allowed to work out by themselves without pre-approval.
  • All users must have signed a UFV Assumption of Risk, Release of Liability and Indemnity Agreement waiver or have pre-approved facility usage insurance.
  • The on-duty supervisors have authority over all weight room conduct and use of equipment, and may expel any user from the facility for failure to follow instructions.
