The 2016-17 season will be the 16th for Liz Chisholm as head coach of the rowing program at the University of the Fraser Valley. Chisholm is the only coach the Cascades club has known since it was established in 2001.
In 2014 Chisholm was appointed Rowing BC/Rowing Canada’s Talent ID coach for the Lower Mainland. Her work with UFV Rowing has led to six former Cascades being chosen to represent the province at the National Rowing Championships, four being sent to Rowing Canada’s national development team, and two eventually representing Canada at the 2013 U23 World Championship and 2014 Pan Am Games. Two former UFV rowers currently row for the senior national team, and one medaled three times in the 2014 World Cup summer series (two silvers and one gold).
Chisholm was the 2010 recipient of the Mentor Coach award for women in rowing through ProMotion Sports. The mentored coach was a former UFV rower, Alicia Borsoi. Borsoi received Sport BC’s prestigious award for female coaches.
The recipient of two prestigious Sport BC President’s Awards for significant impact on the sport of rowing (2006, 2009), Chisholm was also honoured with a Coach of the Year-Women’s Programs award courtesy of the Canadian University Rowing Association in 2009.
UFV rowers have competed in the Canadian University Rowing Championships since 2004. In 2012-2013, the Cascades’ best year to date, the UFV women were ranked eighth in the country, while the men were ranked 10th.
In the summer of 2005 Chisholm received Sport BC’s Community Sport Hero award, the first time Sport BC had handed out the awards. She was one of 10 recipients for 2005.
