The Douglas Royals came into Abbotsford on Friday evening and staged an upset, knocking off the University of the Fraser Valley women’s volleyball team in four sets.
The Cascades came in ranked No. 6 in the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA), but they found little traction against the Royals, who claimed a 26-24, 25-17, 19-25, 25-19 victory.
UFV fell to 6-3 in PacWest regular season play, while Douglas boosted its record to 3-5.
The two teams clash again on Saturday at 6 p.m. at UFV’s Student Activity Centre North Gym.
“We got outplayed in just about every facet of the game,” Cascades head coach Dennis Bokenfohr analyzed. “When you get outplayed in every aspect, you’re probably going to lose.
“Douglas was really ready to go – they played really well and stayed on top, and didn’t give any daylight for us to come back. We didn’t have an edge at all tonight.”
The Cascades got 11 kills from Michelle Zygmunt and 20 digs from Nicole Blandford in the loss.
