Cascades volleyball men roll past Avalanche

The second game of the weekend for the University of the Fraser Valley men’s volleyball team was, in several key ways, a carbon copy of the first.

The Cascades (3-1) excelled from the service line once again on Saturday, racking up 13 aces for the second straight night en route to victory over the College of the Rockies Avalanche (0-3) at the Envision Athletic Centre. The only difference in terms of the result was, this one went four sets (25-19, 25-17, 15-25, 25-16) whereas UFV only required the minimum three sets on Friday.

“Our serving game was the biggest part our offence again tonight,” Cascades head coach Kyle Donen said. “It’s a part of our game that we take pride in.

“We controlled the majority of the game, up until the third set. But we responded well in the fourth – really bore down from the service line. We rebounded when we needed to, and it was nice to see the guys respond that way.”

Adam Chaplin led a balanced attack with nine kills, while Connor Nickel, Joel Kleingeltink, Kurtis Stromdahl and Robert Koenig put away seven kills apiece.

Kleingeltink and Chaplin led the service brigade, notching four and three aces, respectively.

The Cascades hit the road for the first time this coming week, as they visit the Vancouver Island University Mariners for a Friday-Saturday set.

“We feel good about our game,” Donen summarized. “The guys performed incredible this weekend.”
