UFV Cascades Men’s Soccer team head to Victoria on High Note
The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s soccer team defeated Simon Fraser University Clan, 1-0, in Burnaby, BC, on Wednesday afternoon. The Cascades head to Victoria this weekend to participate in the 2012 Keg Spring Classic, hosted by the University of Victoria Vikes soccer teams.
On Wednesday, UFV traveled to Burnaby to play Simon Fraser University, in an exhibition match for the Cascades, while a match that counts towards SFU’s required number of matches needed to be played in their NCAA Division two conference. The game was very even throughout with both teams having chances to score, but denied by some outstanding goalkeeping at both ends.
Mark Village, Abbotsford, BC was the Cascades hero as the third year veteran shutout SFU in nets, the first half, and playing in the field scored the lone goal midway through the second half. Jacob Kubanski, Abbotsford, BC earned the win in the nets for UFV, shutting out the Clan in the second half.
“A great performance by all players involved tonight and a good way to build their confidence prior to the tournament ahead,” said UFV Head coach Alan Errington. “Ravi Singh, Abbotsford, BC had an outstanding game at centre back alongside Brian Davis, Abbotsford, BC who was equally as effective.”
In the 2011 “Keg Classic” the Cascades men’s soccer team defeated the University of Victoria Vikes, 4-3, in the semi-final match and fell to UBC Thunderbirds, in the final, 4-2, to finish second.
