Ottawa Gee Gees defeat UFV Cascades, 75-69, in CIS East Regional Tournament
The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s basketball team fell 75-69 to the University of Ottawa Gee Gees in the CIS East Regional tournament.  The Cascades 2011-12 season is over unless the CIS women’s basketball selection committee selects UFV as the wild card team for next weekend’s CIS national championship tournament, in Calgary, Alberta.  The Cascades regular and post season record falls to 14-9.
The Cascades fell behind early and trailed after the first quarter by 6 points.  The Cascades kept pace witrh the defending OUA Champions all night and went into the intermission down by only four.  It was a battle of two well-matched teams in the third quarter, as UFV pulled within one point of the home-court Gee-Gees. But that would be as close as the Cascades would come, as the Gee-Gees remained solid to rebuild their lead throughout the fourth quarter.
In the last five minutes, Tessa Klassen’s (Winnipeg, Manitoba) three-pointer put UFV within six points of the Gee-Gees, but the Cascades could not come any closer as they fell by six points.  UFV put forth a solid team effort on the scoring front, with 15 points, seven assists from player of the game Kayli Sartori, Chilliwack, BC14 points from Klassen and 11 points from both Aieisha Luyken, Mission, BC and Nicole Wierks, Chilliwack, BC.
