The UFV Cascades golf teams won’t be travelling very far on their way to the 2015 PING Golf National Championships, in fact you could say the tee is only a few drives, a wedge shot, and a couple putts from a UFV campus!
Earlier today the CCAA approved UFV’s bid to host the 2015 championships, awarding the Cascades home turf for the biggest event of the CCAA season. The championships will take place at the Chilliwack Golf Club and will draw more than 100 varsity golfers and coaches from across Canada.
“It’s really exciting news for UFV and the Cascades golf program,” said UFV coach Chris Bertram. “The board at the Chilliwack Golf Club endorsed the bid enthusiastically and I know general manager Bryan Ewart and his staff at the club are going to do a first class job hosting the event.”
The Cascades men’s and women’s teams both won gold in the 2013 championships, and are considered to be strong contenders for this year’s event, which will be hosted by Champlain College St. Lawrence in Quebec.
“We’re very excited about the opportunity to host the 2015 CCAA National Golf Championships at a spectacular golf course nestled in the beautiful Fraser Valley,” said UFV athletics director Rocky Olfert. “Our committee is dedicated to providing a great student-athlete experience and we can’t wait to welcome the top golfers in the CCAA.
The Cascades just returned from Winnipeg, where the men finished fifth at the Canadian University/College Championships.
