Abbotsford Heat Athletes of the Week

Abbotsford – JuliannaHeat Penner of the women’s volleyball team and Jasper Moedt of the men’s basketball team are the recipients of the Abbotsford Heat/UFV Cascades Athletes of the Week.

Penner, a second-year outside hitter from Surrey, BC led the Cascades to two victories over the visiting College of the Rockies Avalanche.  Penner finished the weekend with a combined 11 kills, 2 aces, 14 digs and 2 blocks.

“This past weekend was a weekend where Julie got the opportunity to step up and shine,” commented head coach Dennis Bokenfohr.   “She led our team with kills and digs. Thrown in the fact that she had the second best passing stats, she was a machine out there. Could not be happier to see her really plant a few balls, overwhelming the defence at times. Great weekend Julie. ”

Moedt, a fourth-year player from Abbotsford, had a solid weekend on the road against the nationally ranked Alberta Pandas and Saskatchewan Huskies.  The 6’7″ forward finished the weekend with 29 points and 8 rebounds.

“Jasper is one of our leaders and he really carried us this weekend on a really tough road swing,” commented head coach Adam Friesen.

Both recipients will receive a ticket to any Abbotsford Heat game of their choosing.

This weekend  the volleyball team travels to Nanaimo to take on the VIU Mariners, while the basketball teams host the UBC Thunderbirds.
