Cascades Winning Streak Snapped

Edmonton, AB – Going into this road trip, Fraser Valley knew they would be tested, and tonight was nothing short of that.  The number three ranked UFV Cascades women’s basketball team suffered their first loss of the year, 73-61 to the fourth ranked University of Alberta Pandas.  The loss drops the Cascades to 6-1 while the Pandas improve to 6-2.

Fraser Valley trailed 32-24 at the half after only shooting 28.6% from the field compared to the Pandas 38.7%.  Despite only being out-scored by four points in the second half, the Cascades couldn’t make-up the difference.  Fraser Valley shot just 3 for 16 beyond the arc, while the Pandas were 7 for 16.

The Cascades were led by Kayli Satori who finished the night with 14 points.  Shayna Litman contributed with 13 points in 21 minutes of play, and Renee Byrne of the Pandas finished with a game high 17 points.

Despite the loss, Cascades head coach Al Tuchscherer believes it was an important experience for his previously undefeated squad.

“A lot of lessons tonight against an elite level team.  We are not at the level these teams are at and that’s my fault – we have the tools we just need to start putting the puzzle together.”

Things don’t get any easier for the Cascades on this road trip.  On Saturday Fraser Valley will travel to Saskatoon to take on the fifth-ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies.  The Huskies currently sit in first place in the Prairie division at 6-1.
