Cascades defeat Thunderbirds, 94-83, sweep two games series at Envision Athletic Centre 
The UFV Cascades defeated the UBC Thunderbirds, 94-83, to sweep the two game regular season series, this weekend, at Envision Athletic Centre.  The Cascades record improves to 12-5, as they remain in third place in the West Division of Canada West.  The Cascades have one game remaining this Thursday, at Langley, BC against Trinity Western University.  Both the University of Victoria and UBC have two games remaining before first through third is decided.  The top two teams will host Canada West quarterfinal best of three series while the third place team will travel.     
West Division Standings:

The Cascades came out strong and continued the excellent play that earned them the Friday night victory over UBC.  The Cascades quickly established a double digit lead by scoring the first seven points of the contest and then going on another mini run of five points.  The Cascades were up by nine after the quarter.  In the second, UFV played tremendous defense as UBC could not take a shot without a Cascade in their face, holding the powerful UBC offense to 18 points, while opening up a 16 point lead.
Kyle Grewal, Surrey, BC led the Cascades with 13 first half points.   Jordan Blackman, Abbotsford, BC chipped in with 11 points and Sam Freeman, Coquitlam, BC led all Cascades with 4 rebounds.  Nathan Yu, Richmond, BC led the Thunderbirds with 14 points at the break.
In the second half, UFV continued to play strong defense and holding UBC to 15 points while leading by as many as 22 points midway through the quarter.  The Cascades continued to dominant on both the offensive and defensive boards and kept their double digit lead throughout the second half.  The Cascades offense was powerful tonight scoring 94 points on the number three ranked CIS team. 
“Couldn’t be prouder of the guys commitment to hard work in our program, and the payoff of becoming a strong enough program and team to win back to back versus a top ranked opponent. I feel like our chemistry is improving with each game. The first year recruits are finding their roles, and the returners are stepping there game up to new levels,” said UFV Head coach Barnaby Craddock. Joel Friesen, Abbotsford, BC again led the charge with 23 points.  Sam Freeman, Coquitlam, BC added 19 points and Blackman with 16 points.  Mike James, Winnipeg, Manitoba led the Cascades with 7 total rebounds.        
The Thunderbirds were led by Yu with a game high 27 point performance.
   
The Cascades say goodbye to Mike James, Winnipeg, Manitoba and Sheldon Bjorgaard, Abbotsford, BC who played in their last regular season home game at the Envision Athletic Centre.
