University of Victoria Vikes men’s basketball team defeat UFV Cascades, 70-65, in Canada West action in Victoria, BC

Victoria, BC…The University of Victoria Vikes defeated the UFV Cascades, 70-65, in Canada West regular season action tonight at the McKinnon Gym, in Victoria, BC.  The Vikes, nationally ranked 4th in the CIS top ten poll, improve to 3-0, while UFV falls to 2-1 in the Pacific Division.   

The Vikes came out strong and quickly established a double digit lead over UFV, and led by 12 points going into the second quarter, where the Cascades came alive.  UFV held Victoria to 10 points and outscored them by 14 to go into the locker room up by two at the break.   

The Cascades struggled again after the intermission falling behind by as many as 15 points going into the final quarter.  Victoria was able to maintain their double digit lead until under two minutes remaining when UFV would run off eight straight point to close the gap to five, the closest they would come is three points with 16 seconds left.  UFV had two attempts to tie the game before Victoria would successfully run the clock out to earn the victory in their home opener.     

The Cascades were led by Kadeem Willis, Toronto, Ontario with 21 points, a CIS career high for Willis.  Jasper Moedt, Abbotsford, BC added 15 points and veteran guard Kevon Parchment, Toronto, Ontario 10. 

“I like the way the guys battled back after the slow start.  They never quit and came within one shot of tying the game.  I look forward to tomorrow night’s rematch,” commented UFV head coach Adam Friesen.
