UFV Cascades Volleyball teams sweep the Douglas College Royals in PACWEST action tonight at the EAC

Abbotsford, BC….The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades volleyball teams swept the Douglas College Royals tonight in PACWEST regular season action, at the Envision Athletic Centre. 

The women’s volleyball team improves its PACWEST leading record to 3-0.  The Cascades are perfect this season not losing a set as they swept the Royals by scores of 25-21, 25-23 and 25-22.  Douglas’ record falls to 0-3 on the young season.

“It was a night where we were able to get varying contributions from several players. It was a night that could be described as a great finish. We were down much the night but were fortunate to come out on top each set, “ commented UFV head coach Dennis Bokenfohr.  “Krista (Hogewoning) played one heck of a game. She finished with 14 kills and 16 digs over three sets”.

UFV will host Douglas College tomorrow night at the EAC, game time is set for 6pm.

The men’s volleyball team continue their impressive early season play, they remain in first place in PACWEST with a 3-2 victory over the Royals by scores of 25-23, 28-30, 27-25, 18-25, 15-10.  UFV’s regular season record improves to 2-1, Douglas record falls to 1-2.

The Cascades were led by Josh Togeretz, Yarrow, BC with 16 points (13 kills and 3 block).  The Cascades Anthony Togeretz, Yarrow, BC, came into the third set and dominated to finish a big comeback, for UFV , in the third set victory.  Chris Schmitke, Abbotsford, BC came off the bench late in the 5th set to make some clutch serves and digs to spark UFV to the victory over Douglas. 

“Tonight provided another boost in confidence to a group that is competing better and better every day,” said UFV head coach Greg Russell.

The men host Douglas, on Saturday night, at 8pm, at the EAC.
