UFV Cascades Kayla Bruce PACWEST -CCAA Volleyball Player of the Month
Kayla Bruce, a fourth year Surrey, BC resident was named the PACWEST December Female volleyball athlete of the month by the governing body CCAA. The CCAA Athlete of the Month program recognizes student-athletes for their outstanding event performance and athletic accomplishments during the month.

The distinction is bestowed upon a student-athlete in each conference participating in CCAA Volleyball. The five conferences are PACWEST (Pacific Western Athletic Association), ACAC (Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference), OCAA (Ontario Colleges Athletic Association) RSEQ (Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec) and ACAA (Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association).

Bruce, a first team PACWEST all-star in 2011, is the leader of the Cascades women’s volleyball program, who are currently ranked fourth in Canada (CCAA).

The veteran Cascade middle blocker is third in the CCAA in blocks with 53 for a 1.04 average. Bruce was named Abbotsford Heat/UFV Cascades and PACWEST Athlete of the Week, for the week of October 31st. Bruce currently ranks fifth overall in total offense in the PACWEST with 3.92 average and second overall in aces with 51 for a 0.84 average.

“Kayla continually excels at all aspects of her game. This is confirmed by always being among the leaders in total offensive production. Kayla continues to impress the league with her tough spin serve. Since the beginning of the year she has been climbing the leader board with her blocking stats and currently sits number three but has the most blocks to date in the country. Her most impressive feat is her complete game,” said UFV Head Coach Dennis Bokenfohr.
