The UFV Cascades men’s basketball team defeated the Brandon University Bobcats, 85-75, in Brandon, Manitoba, to improve their West Division record to 9-5, good for third place in the standings.
The Cascades, ranked 10th in the CIS top ten poll, came out strong and quickly established an early lead of seven points after the first quarter. The Bobcats answered the call in the middle to quarters as they close the gap to one point at the half and led by three points after three quarters.
Cue the come back as UFV out scored Brandon by 13 points in the fourth quarter, holding Brandon to 15 points in the final stanza with tremendous team defense. Brandon’s record falls to 5-9 in the Canada West east division.
“I was impressed with our team’s resilient play this evening. Coach Cheung is doing a fantastic job with Brandon, and they played unbelievably hard this evening, getting the better of us at many opportunities,” said UFV head coach Barnaby Craddock.
“It was very nice to see our players maintain there composure during the multiple runs Brandon made on us. In the end we can leave this road trip knowing we are playing solid basketball, and look forward to some very challenging league games to end the regular season.”
The Cascades were led by Kyle Grewal, Surrey, BC with 21 points. Sam Freeman, Coquitlam, BC added 18 points and Jasper Moedt, Abbotsford, BC chipped in with 15 points and a team high 15 rebounds as UFV out rebounded Brandon 52 to 42 for the game.
The Bobcats top scorer was Ilarion Bonhomme with 17 points and Ali Monar pulled down a team high 9 rebounds.
