Basketball’s Sam Freeman & Volleyball Krista Hogewoning are the Abbotsford Heat /UFV Cascades Athletes of the Week, for the week ending Sunday, November 6, 2011.

Freeman, a fourth year arts major, from Coquitlam, BC helped the UFV Cascades men’s basketball team to a split of their opening weekend games in Kamloops, BC. The Cascades defeated TRU Wolfpack, 77-69, on Friday, November 4th and fell to the Wolfpack, 91-83, on Saturday. Freeman led the Cascades in scoring both nights with 18 points, Friday and 22 points on Saturday. In addition the veteran guard pulled down 16 total rebounds over the weekend.

Hogewoning, a first year setter from Delta, BC was selected UFV Cascade Athlete of the Week for a second time in three weeks. Krista led the Cascades to a victory over the CCAA’s number one ranked VIU Mariners, 3-2, on Friday and gave the Mariners a scare before losing their first match of the PACWest season, 3-1, on Saturday. On the Friday night she led the team in total offense: 16 kills, 1 block and 3 aces. On Saturday, she continued her hot play recording 32 offensive points, 5 of which were aces.
