Carleton University Ravens defeat UFV Cascades, 64-52, in 6th annual Metro Glebe Women’s Basketball Tournament

Tessa Klassen UFVThe Carleton University Ravens (OUA East) defeated he UFV Cascades, 64-52, in the 6th annual Metro Glebe women’s basketball tournament championship game. The Cascades finished the tournament 2-1.

UFV started off the final competing with Carleton basket for basket, taking a two point lead into the second quarter. In the middle stanza, the Ravens would hold UFV to 10 points, while scoring 30. The 18 point deficit at the half was too large for UFV to come back all the way, but the Cascades never quit and pulled within 10 points in the fourth quarter before falling by 12.

The Cascades were led by Nicole Wierks, Chilliwack, BC with 12 points. Tessa Klassen, Winnipeg, Manitoba added 9 points, 2 assists and 3 total rebounds in the game. Sarah Wierks, Chilliwack, BC led all Cascades with 10 total rebounds.

“A lot of lessons on physical play today. Beat us to every loose ball and rebound, crushed us on every screen. They did the things that top 10 teams do. We must learn from this experience,” said Head Coach Al Tuchscherer.

Klassen named Metro Glebe Tournament All-Star

Tessa Klassen, a fifth year guard, from Winnipeg, Manitoba was named to the 6thannual Metro Glebe All-Tournament team. The Arts major was the lone Cascade all-star. Three all-stars were from Carleton University and the other two from QUAM and Brock University.
