The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s soccer team were defeated by the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns, 3-0, on Sunday, in Lethbridge, Alberta. The Cascades Canada West record falls to 10-5-0 for 3 points tied with Lethbridge for 7th place overall in the conference.
The Cascades came into Sunday’s game looking to snap their four game losing streak where met by a hungry Pronghorn team that opened the scoring 11 minutes into the match. While UFV had some good opportunities to tie the match, Lethbridge’s goalkeeper Colin Pattison shut the door and the Pronghorns were able to double their lead four minutes to the halftime break.
The second half was a midfield battle with both teams having chances to score. The Pronghorns clinched their first conference win of the season by netting their third goal of the match at the 57th minute. UFV has now dropped five straight conference matches.
“Trying to rebound from a disappointing loss to Calgary yesterday, we never really got started. In a game dominated by heavy wind UFV struggled to find any form and were guilty of some sloppy play and poor marking,” said Head Coach Alan Errington. “We tried to chase a goal, but never really looked like scoring. We have nowhere to go but up from here. Very disappointing weekend.”
