The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades opened the 2011 Canada West regular season against their arch rivals Trinity Western University Spartans, in Langley, BC. The Cascades defeated TWU, 1-0 on a goal by veteran forward Craig Robinson, Chilliwack, BC on an assist from JP Mora-Perea, Morelia, Mexico. Mark Village, Abbotsford, BC earned the shutout victory in UFV’s net with four saves.
“A good team performance with all players contributing, three rookies played big parts, Daniel Molendijk, Maple Ridge, BC for 80 minutes worked tirelessly and Colton O’Neill, Abbotsford, BC and Jorden Leib, Bellingham, WA played the full 90 minutes, said Head Coach Alan Errington.
On Saturday, the Cascades traveled to Vancouver where they were defeated by UBC Thunderbirds, 4-2. Goals were scored by Brian Davis, Abbotsford, BC and Sasa Plavsic, Coquitlam, BC.
“After some adjustments at half time UFV came back with a goal from Brian Davis. We were competing well and showed great improvement from the first half only to see it go wrong with two penalties being awarded to UBC. A frustrating night after such a good start yesterday,” said Errington.
