Barnaby Craddock, Head Coach, of the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s basketball program is pleased to announce the 2011-12 recruiting class. The Cascades are pleased to welcome James York, Richland, Wahington, Klaus Figueiredo, Edmonton, Alberta, Luke Braund, Vancouver, BC in addition to Jordan Blackman and the return of Cascade veterans Kyle Grewal, Surrey, BC and Jasper Moedt, Abbotsford, BC from injured reserve list. The Cascades see 10 of their 12 players from last year’s roster return giving Coach Craddock and his staff lots of options going forward in 2011-12. Craddock, who will be an assistant coach on the 2011 CIS World University Games men’s basketball team, heading to Shenzhen, China, August 12 to 23, is excited about the level of competition in both the Cascades training camp and the new 18 game Canada West schedule which introduces UBC-Okanagan to the schedule as the newest CW member.
James York is a 6’1 guard, Richland, Washington. Transferring in from Montana Tech (NAIA), where in 2008-09, he was second on the team in assists at 3.3 per game and scored 7.27 points per game.
York will be pursuing a degree in Criminology at UFV.
“Our coaching staff and returning team members are absolutely thrilled to have these two high caliber basketball players and quality people join our program. When they visited earlier this off-season they made a great impression on everyone around campus, and we know they will fit in great on and off the court for us,” said Craddock of York and Monagle.
Klaus Figueiredo is a 6’0 guard from Edmonton, Alberta, transferring from NAIT. Klaus last played for NAIT in 2009-10 when he averaged 2 assists per game and 3.14points per game. In 2008, Klaus led both 4A H.S Paul Kane to a Provincial title and the Alberta Juvenile team to National Championship.
“Klaus is a lock down defender who has a knack for making the players around him better. He also bring an unbelievable positive and winning attitude with him, and I think Klaus will have some very productive years here as a Cascade”.
Luke Braund is a 6’5 post, Vancouver, B.C, transferring from TWU. Braund was a starter and key part of the St Georges AAA H.S Championship team in 2009. “Luke is knock down shooter, which has a post is something that will suit him very well in our system. He is also a strong rebounder and has the ability to impact this team from year one.”
