Barnaby Craddock, the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s basketball coach, has been named to the 2011 Team Canada men’s basketball coaching staff going to the 26th Summer Universiade from August 12 to 23 in Shenzhen, China. This is Craddock’s first Universiade appointment and he will be coaching with UBC’s Kevin Hanson and Dalhousie’s John Campbell.
Last year Craddock led the UFV Cascades to a sixth place finish (10-14) good for a position in the Canada West playoffs, where his Cascades went the distance against rival Trinity Western University Spartans, losing the best 2 out of 3 in the final game. Craddock coached the Under 17 BC Provincial Basketball team to a Bronze Medal, last summer, at the 2010 Canada Basketball National Championships.
Craddock will be entering his fifth year at the helm of the Cascades in September. Previously Barnaby led the Brandon Bobcats to the CIS National Championship game, in 2006, falling to Carleton University Ravens, 52-49, in a thrilling nail biting game. Craddock was selected the Canada West and CIS men’s basketball coach, in 2006, for leading Brandon to the national silver medal. Craddock is a graduate of the University of Lethbridge, with a degree in Kinesiology.
