Cascades stay alive with 90-85 victory over Lethbridge.

Tied with Calgary and trail Manitoba by 1 game with 2 regular season games remaining.

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades  men’s basketball team defeated the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns, 90-85, to improve their Canada West regular season record to 8-14, good for a tie for 8th Place with the University of Calgary Dinos.  They both trail the University of Manitoba Bisons by one game, at 9-13.  Two of the three teams will qualify for the Canada West post season tournament, there are two games remaining next weekend for each team.

On Friday night UFV was defeated by Lethbridge, 86-82, in Lethbridge, Alberta.  Joel Friesen, Abbotsford, BC led the Cascades with 20 points.  Zeon Gray, Los Angeles, CA  and James Elliott, Perth Western Australia each chipped in with 17 points.  Elliott led UFV with 12 total boards, as the Cascades pulled down 42 for the game.

Saturday night, UFV came out and establish themselves knowing it was “a must” win to stay in the Canada West playoff race.  The Cascades led from start to finish to pick up their 8th league victory.  Gray and Elliott each scored 18 points to led UFV.  Sam Freeman, Coquitlam, BC chipped in with 17 points.  Gray led the Cascades with 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals.  UFV pulled down 32 total rebounds.

The Cascades host Brandon University, next weekend, February 18 and 19 to close out the 2010-11 CW campaign.  Two victories would go along way to seeing UFV participate in the 2011 Canada West post season tournament.
