Joel Friesen and Aieisha Luyken UFV Cascades/Abbotsford Heat Athletes of the week

Joel Friesen, men’s basketball guard from Abbotsford, BC, led the Cascades to a thrilling victory over the University of Calgary Dinos, on Saturday, with a game high 28 point performance, 7 rebounds and 3 steals as the Cascades defeated Calgary, 86-69.  Friesen added 11 points and 8 rebounds in Friday’s loss at the buzzer, to Calgary, 82-79.  His 39 weekend points, 15 total rebounds and 5 steals led the Cascades players as they improve their Canada West record to 5-9 in the race for the CW post season tournament.

Aieisha Luyken, a member of the women’s basketball team from Mission, BC, helped the Cascades defeat Calgary, on Friday, 76-60, scoring 10 points, recording 2 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.  Saturday, the Kinesiology major added 4 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists in the 77-60 loss to the Dinos.  UFV sits in 7th Place in the Canada West standings, with a record of 7-7.
