The UFV Cascades defeat the Thompson Rivers Wolf Pack, 78-43, in exhibition play.

The UFV Cascades defeated the TRU Wolf Pack, 78-43, in exhibition play at Envision Athletic Centre, in Abbotsford, BC.  The Cascades and Wolf Pack will play a second exhibition game tomorrow afternoon, before starting up the Canada West regular season again the first full weekend back in January, 2011.

The Cascades jumped out to an early lead and led from the opening whistle to closing showing no rust from the holiday break.  The Cascades defense again showed why they are in a post season position as December’s regular season came to a close, holding TRU to 9 points midway through the first half.  The Cascades went into the intermission leading by 19 points, 36-17.  Alyssa Gaukel, Chilliwack, BC and Courtney Bartel, Chilliwack, BC each scored 9 first half points.
The second half was a mirror of the first with UFV playing excellent defense and moving the ball around well.  UFV shot close to 50% from the floor for the game.  Bartel finished with a team high 22 point performance.  Gaukel with 11 points and Aieisha Luyken, Mission, BC with 10-points in the victory of TRU.  Sarah Wierks, Chilliwack, BC led the Cascades with 14-total rebounds as UFV pulled down 35 boards for the game.
“I was very happy with our team’s performance today,” said UFV Head Coach Al Tuchsherer.  “We did not look like the holiday break stopped our momentum from our last 4 Canada West regular season games.”
