Rob Giesbrecht, head coach of the defending CIS Bronze medalists and Canada West Champions is pleased to announce Mackenzie Shopland will be enrolling in the University of the Fraser Valley and participating on the women’s soccer team in the fall of 2011. Shopland comes to UFV from the Vancouver Whitecaps prospects program, where she played on the leadership of Hubert Busby, the Whitecaps head coach, who led Vancouver to the W-League Silver medal in 2010.
Mackenzie Shopland, a native of Langley, BC will join the UFV Cascades midfield in 2011 which already includes veteran captain Megan Webster, Abbotsford, BC and Andrea McLachlan, Maple Ridge, BC two “key” contributors to the 2010 success of the Cascades.
“Mackenzie is an outstanding addition to the UFV Women’s Soccer program. She possesses the athletic ability and strength of character that we look for. Macki is a central midfielder that possesses the ability to impact games offensively and defensively. Macki will play a vital role in the future success of UFV women’s soccer not only because of her ability as a soccer player, but also because of who she is as a person. Macki is a future leader in our program. I am thrilled that she has committed to attend UFV and play for the Cascades,” said Giesbrecht.
