Freeman, Men’s Basketball, and Neeson, Women’s Soccer, are the UFV Cascades/Abbotsford Heat Athletes of the Week.

Carly Neeson
Sport: Women’s Soccer

Position:  Forward
Hometown:  Maple Ridge, BC
Major:  General Studies (1)
Neeson was the only student-athlete at the 2010 CIS National Championship to be named “Player of the Game” in all three matches her school played in! The rookie forward from Maple Ridge, BC was the only Canada West student-athlete named to the 2010 CIS All-Canadian Tournament team. She scored one goal and one penalty kick in the Cascades 3-2 Bronze Medal penalty kick victory over the University of Montreal Carabins.
It was Carly’s work on the pitch that led to three of UFV’s 4 goals during the tournament. At one point in the Laval match the 5 foot 1 inch striker was double teamed by the Rouge et Or because she kept breaking down their defensive structure. It was a foul by Laval on Carly that led to Caitlin Blondin’s historic first UFV goal at the CIS Championships.

Sam Freeman
Sport: Men’s Basketball
Position:  Guard
Hometown: Coquitlam, BC
Major:  Arts (3)
Freeman led the Cascades in scoring with 33-points over the weekend as UFV defeated Victoria, 53-50, on Friday, while falling 83-80, on Saturday.  The veteran guard was top scorer with 14-points on Friday and 19-points, on Saturday, to go with 8-total rebounds and 3-assists.

The Cascades Canada West regular season record stands at 2-4.
