The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s basketball team fell to the University of Victoria Vikes, 83-80, in a second straight close Canada West regular season game between the two teams at the Envision Athletic Centre.  The Cascades regular season record falls to 2-4.
The Cascades picked up right where they left off, on Friday night, when stay staged a comeback in the final quarter.  The Cascades battled Victoria all evening and had the lead after the first quarter by 3-points and kept the pressure on Victoria and led at the half by 4-points, 37-33.

In the second half the lead changed hands numerous times as both teams looked for the winning basket down the stretch.  The Vikes would put together a big third quarter out scoring UFV by 11-points to go into the final quarter leading by 7-points.  The Cascades would chip into that lead but fall short by 3-points in the end.  The teams finish their two game regular season series tied at one win each and at 133 points each.

“Credit goes to Victoria who made more plays than us in the second half,” said UFV Head Coach Barnaby Craddock.  “When they stepped there game up, we couldn’t manage to quite get on the same page as a team, and that cost us.”
“Statistically they made twice as many free throws as we attempted, and that was also a key factor in the game.”
The Cascades were led by Sam Freeman, Coquitlam, BC with a team high 19-points, 8-total rebounds and 3-assists.  Ryan Fahandeg, Kelowna, BC added 16-points and 4-rebounds, while Zeon Gray, Los Angeles, CA chipped in with 13-points and 5-assists.  The Vikes top scorer was Ryan MacKinnon with a game high 20-points, 7-assists and 7-total rebounds.  The Vikes out rebounded UFV 34 to 33 for the game.
