The University of British Columbia Thunderbirds defeated the UFV Cascades, 6-2, at Bateman Park, in Abbotsford, BC.   The loss drops UFV’s Canada West regular season record to 3-9-0 for 9-points, good for 6th place in the conference.
After spotting UBC a quick goal at the two minute mark, UFV would mount an offensive attack that would tie the match four minutes later as Stuart Rowlands, Chilliwack, BC would score his third goal of the season to tie the match.  UFV would continue to put pressure on UBC’s back four and Brent Wantke, Langley, BC would score the go ahead goal off a perfect feed from Sasa Plavsic, Coquitlam, BC to give UFV a 2-1 lead after 25 minutes of play.
The lead would stand up for 13 minutes until UBC would go onto score three unanswered goals in less than five minutes, two by Gagandeep Dosanjh, Abbotsford, BC, to give the Thunderbirds at 4-2 halftime lead.
In the second half, UFV came out strong pressuring UBC’s defense and after hitting the post twice, the referee awarded UFV a penalty shot which the Thunderbirds goalkeeper, Matt Robinson, Vancouver, BC would save.  The UBC offense came back to life scoring twice more before the final whistle to secure the three road points.
“The score did not reflect the game today.  We had a penalty saved and hit the crossbar twice.  I thought the effort fro the boys was terrific, ” said UFV Head Coach Alan Errington.
