The University of Alberta Golden Bears defeated the UFV Cascades, 5-1, in Canada West regular season play, in Edmonton, Alberta. The Cascades league record falls to 2-7-0 for 6-points, they maintain 6th place in the league standings.
Alberta jumped out to a quick lead at the 14th minute, but the Golden Bears’ goal seemed to bring life to UFV as the Cascades mounted their only successful offensive attack of the day as Juan Pablo Mora Perea, Morelia, Mexico found Stuart Rowlands, Chilliwack, BC open and the rookie Science Studies major made no mistake scoring his second Canada West goal of the season to tie the match at the 33rd minute of play. The Golden Bears would respond scoring 9 minutes later to take a 2-1 lead into the half.
In the second half, the more experienced Golden Bears would score three times to lock up their 8th victory of the year. Colton Keam, Langley, BC made 4 saves in the Cascade net as he faced numerous shots all afternoon.
“In the first half we showed we can compete with the top of our division, but the second half was disappointing as we gave up the three goals,” said UFV Head Coach Alan Errington.
The Cascades take on the University of Saskatchewan, tomorrow in Saskatoon, in their final regular season road game in 2010.
