UFV Cascades Women’s Basketball team opens TRU Tournament with 70-57 victory over host WolfPack.

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s basketball team opened the Thompson Rivers University tournament with a 70-57 victory over the host, TRU WolfPack. The tournament is a three-day event, in Kamloops, BC, also involving the University of British Columbia-Okanagan and Kwantlen University.  The Cascades non-conference exhibition record improves to 2-3.

The Cascades were led by fourth year veteran guard Tessa Klassen, Winnipeg, Manitoba, with a team high 20-point performance.  Alexa McCarthy, a second year guard from Chilliwack, BC added 11-points and Courtney Bartel, a second year guard from Chilliwack, BC chipped in with 10-points.  Klassen and Sarah Wierks, a rookie forward from Chilliwack, BC each pulled down 8-total rebounds as the Cascades out rebounded TRU 56-36 for the game.
“This was a good start for our young team.,” said UFV Head Coach Al Tuchscherer.  ” Everyone played valuable minutes and the result was very positive.”
