TCU Horned Frogs defeat UFV Cascades, 100-61, in exhibition game at Envision Athletic Centre.

The Texas Christian University (TCU) Horned Frogs (Mountain West Conference-NCAA) defeated the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades (CWUAA-CIS), 100-61, at the Envision Athletic Centre.  TCU and the Cascades will play a second international friendly tomorrow night in Abbotsford, game time is scheduled for 6:00PM.

The Cascades again played well in the first quarter holding their own against their NCAA opponent.  The home team trailed by 8-points, 29-21 after the first quarter.  In the second the more experienced Horned Frogs scored 35 points while holding UFV to 11, and taking a commanding halftime lead of 64-32 into the locker room.
In the second half, UFV came out strong and played excellent defense holding TCU to 36 second half points, while winning the final quarter 19-16.  With the loss the Cascades exhibition record falls to 0-2 for the three game NCAA exhibition series at the Envision Athletic Centre.
The Cascades were paced by Nicole Wierks, Chilliwack, BC and Tessa Klassen, Winnipeg, Manitoba with a team high 13-points each.  Alexa McCarthy, Chilliwack, BC added 11-points as the only other Cascade in double figures.  Wierks led all UFV players with 7-total rebounds as the Cascades pulled down 48-boards for the game.
“It was a great opportunity to learn from a good team,” said Head Coach Al Tuchscherer.  “We played much more physical than the night before. Our team learned from TCU’s more experienced players. It will help us through the tough CWUAA season.”
The Horned Frogs were led by Helena Sverrisdottir, Hafnarfjordur, Iceland with a game high 21-point performance.  Emily Carter, Bossier, La added 17-points while Rachel Rentschier, Keller, Texas and Delisa Gross, Waco, Texas each added 13-points to round out the TCU players in double figures.  Antoinette Thompson, Fort Worth, Texas pulled down a team high 12-total rebounds as TCU registered 58 boards in the victory.

Media Note:  TCU and UFV’s coaches decided to play a 48-minute game (4 – 12 minute quarters tonight) instead of the usual 40-minute game.
