ABBOTSFORD, BC — The University of the Fraser Valley women’s volleyball team is now within striking distance of second place, and a potential first round bye in the British Columbia Colleges’ Athletic Conference (BCCAA) playoffs, which take place the last weekend in February at Camosun College.
The Cascades won their seventh-straight match Sunday with a four-set victory over Camosun at Envision Athletic Centre in Abbotsford.
The Cascades improved to 8-2, and are one victory behind Capilano College. The Blues, 9-2, will host Fraser Valley next weekend.
The Chargers fell to 4-9 with the loss.
The Cascades were fired up from the start and dominated the first game, pulling out a 25-17 win.
Camosun, which was swept in three-straight games by Fraser Valley Saturday, beat the Cascades for the first time during the weekend doubleheader with a 25-21 victory in the second game to even the match. It would turn out to be Camosun’s lone chance to celebrate.
The Cascades got back on track in the third set, taking the first four points, and cruising to a 25-17 win. Fraser Valley finished off the Chargers with a 25-22 victory in the fourth game.
“Our goal against Camosun was to be competitive in every set we played,” said Cascades head coach Dennis Bokenfohr. “The ladies’ effort met expectations as we continue to work towards our next opponent, No. 2-ranked Capilano. We are going to have to maintain this focused effort as we work our way towards the provincial tournament.”
The Cascades, winners of seven in a row, are at Capilano College Jan. 29-30, and will host Selkirk Feb. 5-6.
