ABBOTSFORD: Life is good for the University of the Fraser Valley women’s volleyball team these days. The Cascades have won seven-straight matches and are seriously challenging the top teams for a first-round playoff bye, and, players are already knocking on the door with the desire to don a UFV uniform next season.
The latest player to commit to the Cascades women’s volleyball program is Kierra Noot. The 17-year-old from Surrey has officially informed Cascades head coach Dennis Bokenfohr she will attend classes at The University of the Fraser Valley in September, 2010, and will suit up for the team starting in the 2010-2011 British Columbia Colleges’ Athletic Association (BCCAA) season.
“I chose UFV because I knew they had a great nursing program, and it turned out that they had a great volleyball team. It all just seemed to fit together perfectly,” said Noot, who boasts a 22-inch vertical jump and a 7-foot, 8-inch standing reach. “I have maintained a strong leadership role on every team I’ve played for. I am a motivator and I am motivated. I am also an extremely competitive person and I love to win, so I think I can bring that little extra edge to the team.”
Kierra Noot has played for Pacific Academy Breakers senior team all three years of high school. She was named the team captain in her final year at PA, and helped the team to a Bronze medal at the 2009-2010 BC Championships, where she was named a provincial All-Star.
Noot captained Focus Kaboom to a Provincial Championship in 2009, and is currently working toward an undefeated season with the goal being another provincial championship. She also held a starting position on Team BC in 2008.
“Kierra’s resume speaks for itself. She has played with a Focus Volleyball Club which has won provincials the past two years, and she has the complete skill set that would excite any coach to have on their team,” stated Cascades head coach Dennis Bokenfohr. “In a year where we are graduating Kristine Ewald, one of the best middles in the BCCAA, Kierra looks to fill some pretty big shoes. The similarities are very evident. Kristine and Kierra are both middles, the captains on their respective teams, and one of the top players at their respective position in their league. Also, both are very driven to be champions.”
Kierra Noot has also been successful off the court, finishing her Grade 10 RCM piano exam with an honours standing, and completing basic, intermediate and advanced Music History, Harmony and Counterpoint.
Kierra Noot will begin classes in the nursing program at UFV in September, 2010
