Cascades men’s volleyball team runs winning streak to eight games

They were pushed to the limit, and then some, but the winning streak continues for the University of the Fraser Valley.

Friday at Capilano College, the Cascades needed extra points in the fifth and deciding set to finally put away the Blues.

The Cascades, who lost their first three matches, won their eighth-straight with a come-from-behind five-set victory over the Blues in British Columbia Colleges’ Athletic Conference (BCCAA) men’s volleyball action in North Vancouver.

The Cascades improved to 8-3 with the victory, while the Blues fell to 4-9.

The win allowed the Cascades to move into third place in the standings, six points behind second place Vancouver Island University and holding two games in hand on the Mariners.

A top-two placing after the regular season would give the Cascades a bye into the provincial semifinals.

Fraser Valley took a 25-23 win in the opening game.

The Blues fought back to take the next two games by scores of 26-24 and 25-20.

Facing elimination, Fraser Valley evened the match with a 25-21 victory.

The Cascades won the final set 17-15 to beat the Blues in their home gymnasium.

The Cascades and Blues will meet again Saturday at Capilano College, and UFV will host Selkirk Feb. 5-6.
