UFV Rowing signs gifted student-athlete

ABBOTSFORD, BC- University of the Fraser Valley Rowing coach Liz Chisholm has increased the strength of her squad with the signing of talented Genevieve Santos. A graduate from Langley Secondary School, Genevieve will be entering the Bachelor of Arts program this fall.

With a passion for all water sports, Genevieve chose UFV so that she could row with the Cascades Rowing team. She graduates from Langley Secondary with a double Dogwood certificate for the completion of the French Immersion program. Athletics has always played a dominant role in her life, playing three high level sports in high school including volleyball, basketball, and rugby. She has a natural passion for the arts, performing in the concert and jazz band throughout high school, winning the Grade 11 Jazz Band award. Genevieve is incredibly talented with music, with her expertise being the violin and piano. Genevieve is looking forward to university life, training hard, the team work and competition of the 2010-2011 Cascades season.

“There is nothing better than being on the water and feeling the rush of being part of a precision team working as one,” commented Santos. “I am definitely a team player; I bring to the team my strength and skill but more importantly my enthusiasm and team sprit. You can always count on me to give all I have, and I am very excited for the upcoming season.”

“I’m excited for what Genevieve brings to the team – we’ve been waiting for her to choose UFV since she first entered our sport two years ago,” stated head coach Liz Chisholm. “She is a positive, energetic, and hard-working athlete, and our future looks bright with Genevieve a part of it.”
