UFV Cascades defeat York University Lions, 98-82, in Kamloops, BC
Kamloops, BC…The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s basketball team defeated the York University Lions, 98-82, at the TRU Wolfpack tournament, in Kamloops, BC. The victory marks coach Adam Friesen’s first CIS preaseason victory as the Cascades head coach. The Cascades will now turn their attention to hosting the 2nd annual Honda Way Basketball Weekend, at the Envision Athletic Centre, next weekend.
Parchment scored 22 points, recorded 7 boards and 5 steals in the win.
Tonight in Kamloops, UFV came out strong and quickly established an early lead against their OUA East opponents and led by 11 points after the first quarter. UFV played great defense in the first half holding the high powered York offense to 46 first half points. Jordan Blackman led all Cascades at the break with 13 points. UFV shot a remarkable 60 percent from the floor.
The Cascades continued to play great defense in the second half, holding York to 12 points in the third quarter, while building up a 24 point lead going into the final quarter. UFV shot 37 percent in the second half and 47 percent for the night. “The guys played really well today. We’re continuing to gel as a team and show longer strectches of the caliber of basketball we are capable of playing,” commentred Friesen.
Blackman led all Cascades with 26 points. Kyle Grewal added 23 points and rookie Kevon Parchment 22 points, 7 total rebounds and 5 steals. James York recorded 8 assists in the win.
