Abbotsford, BC…The University of Alberta Golden Bears, ranked 6th in the CIS top ten poll, defeated the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades, ranked 4th in the CIS top ten poll, 91-81, in Canada West regular season action at the Envision Athletic Centre. The Golden Bears improve their Prairie Division record to 10-2, while UFV falls to 7-5 in the Pacific Division of Canada West.

Tonight’s game was an exciting fast paced game that featured two strong offenses that started off fast and gave the crowd at the EAC an old fashion ”barn burner” until the final whistle. The game opened with both teams trading baskets as UFV came out shooting after last night’s low shooting percentage (35) against Saskatchewan. Led by Sam Freeman, Coquitlam, BC and James York, Richland, Washington UFV was able to keep up with the powerful Golden Bear offense. The game was deadlocked at 19 after the first quarter. The Cascades shot 46 percent for the half and most of that was in the second quarter as they had two six point runs to open up a nine point lead which they held onto at the break. The Golden Bears shot 43 percent in the first half.
