Cascades atop all four leaderboards after Round 1, Bardock fires ace at golf nationals

Emery Bardock’s opening round was highlighted by an ace on the seventh hole.

The opening round of the PING CCAA Golf National Championships couldn’t have gone much better for the University of the Fraser Valley golf program in general, or for Emery Bardock in particular.

When the dust had settled after a blustery Round 1 at Royal Ashburn Golf Club in Durham, Ont., the Cascades were atop all four leaderboards: men’s and women’s team, and men’s and women’s individual.

Bardock, the 2017 PACWEST champion from Armstrong, B.C., provided the highlight of the day, notching a hole-in-one on the par-three seventh hole. That sparked her to a two-stroke lead through 18 holes at +10 (82). Hannah Dirksen (+14) is tied for sixth, and Maddie Kapchinsky (+16) is eighth. Team-wise, the UFV women are at +24, three strokes better than defending champ Georgian College.

On the men’s side, the Cascades (+13) have a nine-stroke edge on UBC Okanagan (+22) after the first round. Daniel Campbell (-1) and Zach Olson (+1) sit one-two in the individual standings, and Kyle Claggett (+4, tied for seventh) is also among the top 10.
