Cascades compete against UBC and UVic at Burnaby Lake
The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s and women’s rowing team competed against UBC and the University of Victoria this past weekend, at Lake Burnaby. The Cascades men’s 2 heavyweight boat with a time of 16:42 over the 4km race, won that event.
The women’s two finished third but had a great start to the race. “They are both powerful girls, but needing some extra time in the boat,” said Head Coach Liz Chisholm of Debra Neufeld and Nadine Mross.
The Lightweight women’s 2x (Bethany Whitehead/Becky Hildebrandt), came 3rd to both UBC’s and UVic’s lightweight 2x’s, both carrying world champion rowers in the crew. “Becky & Bethany are both overcoming spring injuries, and have been nose-to-the-grindstone, since May, working on that fine balance of rehab and strength building. It shows, and it will be exciting how they stack up across Canada in 4 weeks in Ontario,” said Chisholm.
“These races showed the results of some hard work and commitment; the racing helped us to look at what needs some more attention, and what we are doing well at in this season beginning.”
