The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades defeated the UBC Okanagan Heat, 71-50, to improve their Canada West conference record to 4-2. The Cascades will now go on the road to Saskatchewan and Alberta before breaking for exams.

Tonight’s game was closer than Friday’s as UFV established a quick lead but UBC Okanagan kept fighting their way back into the contest. The Cascades led by nine points after the first quarter and by 10 points at the half. “Important two wins against a pretty scrappy team in UBC Okanagan. They made us work hard for all 80 minutes this weekend. Still need to work on our consistency over 40 minutes. Looking forward to hitting the road against two very good teams next weekend,” said UFV Head Coach Al Tuchscherer.

The Cascades were led by Tessa Klassen, Winnipeg, Manitoba with a game high 19 point performance. Nicole Wierks, Chilliwack, BC added 13 points, as 11 different Cascades scored at least two points in the victory. The Heat were led by Madison Kaneda, Vernon, BC with 11 points, the only other Heat in double figures was Roslyn Huber, Kelowna, BC with 10 points. Krystal Schouten, Winnipeg, Manitoba led all Heat with 11 total rebounds.
