UFV Cascades defeat UBC Okanagan Heat, 74-52, at Envision Athletic Centre
The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades defeated the UBC Okanagan Heat, 74-52, at the Envision Athletic Centre to improve their Canada West regular season conference record to 4-1. The Heat, making their first Canada West/CIS regular season appearance to Abbotsford fall to 0-3 in conference play.
The first quarter was very entertaining as the Heat stayed with the more experienced Cascade team. UFV led by four points after the first quarter. Going into the second quarter, UFV started to find its grove and opened up a double digit lead and led by 13 points at the break.
UFV continued to dominate the game in the second half building up a 23 point lead after three quarters and held that 20 point lead in the final quarter as they win their third straight home game.
The Cascades were led by Jasper Moedt, Abbotsford, BC with a game high 24 points. Joel Friesen, Abbotsford, BC and James York, Richland, Washington each added 11 points in the victory as nine different Cascades scored in the game. Moedt led all Cascades with 12 total rebounds.
The Heat’s top scorer was Yassine Ghomari, Vancouver, BC with 16 points. Simon Pelland, North Vancouver, BC led the Heat with 8 total rebounds.
“I thought we were flat to start and finish the game this evening. We were warmed up and played fairly well in the second and third quarters. Jasper Moedt did a great job on the glass this evening, and kept a lot of missed shots alive,” said UFV Head Coach Barnaby Craddock.
