The University of the Fraser Valley women’s volleyball team ended their first-half schedule on a high note, earning an impressive three-set victory over the Capilano Blues on Thursday evening in North Vancouver.
The Blues came in ranked No. 10 in the nation, but the Cascades prevailed in decisive fashion (25-17, 25-16, 25-14).
UFV (4-8, tied for fifth in PACWEST) and Capilano (7-5, third in PACWEST) are done with conference play for 2016 and return to action Jan. 6-7. The Cascades open 2017 on the road vs. the Douglas Royals.
“Our team had a great response to last week,” UFV head coach Mike Gilray said, alluding to the Cascades’ struggles in a four-set loss to College of the Rockies last Sunday. “As a team we had our best serving night so far this year, and we also had our best passing game.”
Monique Huber paced the Cascades at the service line with five aces, and libero Amy Davidson led a rock-solid defensive performance.
Rachel Funk racked up a team-high 10 kills to go with eight digs.
