UFV Cascades Kayla Bruce named PACWEST Female Volleyball Athlete of the Week

Abbotsford, BC…..The University o)f the Fraser Valley Cascades Kayla Bruce, has been named the PACWEST Female Volleyball athlete of the week for the week ending Sunday, February 24th

Bruce, the fifth year middle led UFV’s women’s volleyball program to their first ever PACWEST Championship, defeating Capilano University, 3-1, and CBC, 3-0, in the final.  Bruce was named to the tournament All-Star team and tournament Most Valuable Player.  The Surrey, BC native recorded 32 kills, 6 blocks and 4 aces in both weekend playoff games.  UFV will go into the 2013 CCAA national Championship Tournament seated number one and face  the Maritime Champion in the first round.

“What a weekend for Kayla. Nearly unstoppable, it is clear she is playing like she only has a few games left in the PACWEST. Her enthusiasm and focus was not rivaled this weekend. In the past I have mentioned her compete level, well it was as high as I have witnessed it. One thing that was very transparent, was how she was doing it for her teammates. She knows we rely on her, and she continues to deliver game after game,” said UFV Head Coach Dennis Bokenfohr.
