Cranbrook, BC…..The Camosun College Chargers (ranked 3rd in PACWEST) men’s volleyball team defeated the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades (ranked 6th in PACWEST) 3-1 today in the 2013 PACWEST Tournament quarterfinal match played at the College of the Rockies, in Cranbrook, BC. The Cascades season comes to an end sporting a 6-19 overall record (6-18 regular season and 0-1 in playoffs). The Chargers move on to tomorrow’s conference semi-final as they face the VIU Mariners at 3pm MST. The set scores were 25-21, 19-25, 20-25 and 20-25.
UFV started off well winning the first set by a score of 25-21 before the Chargers (15-9 in the regular season) came storming back to sweep the next three sets to end the Cascades season. UFV has qualified for the PACWEST (formerly BCCAA) playoffs for a fifth straight time and with the nucleus of the team led by Adam Chaplin, a second year left side, from Mission, BC who was named to the 2013 PACWEST all-conference second team and Kurtis Stromdahl, a rookie left side from Mission, BC named to the PACWEST all-rookie team returning, Coach Greg Russell has a very bright 2013-14 regular season ahead of him. The Cascades had a great February winning four straight down the stretch and five of their last nine.
MEDIA NOTE: The “ROAD TO LLOYDMINSTER, ALBERTA” for the women’s volleyball team starts tomorrow at 6pm MST against either Camosun or Capilano in Cranbrook, BC.
