Monika Levarsky of the University of the Fraser Valley women’s soccer team has been named the Canada West female second star of the week.
The sophomore forward from Surrey, B.C. was honoured for her offensive exploits in a pair of weekend wins on the road.
On Friday in Edmonton, Levarsky scored on a breakaway in the 90th minute to seal the Cascades’ 2-0 victory over the Alberta Pandas. It was UFV’s first-ever regular season win at Alberta’s Foote Field.
On Sunday in Prince George, Levarsky – a Canada West second team all-star in 2014 – scored twice to spark a 6-1 win over the UNBC Timberwolves. Her four goals on the season are tied for third-most in Canada West.
Rachel Hutchinson (Trinity Western women’s soccer) and Emma Greig (Victoria Vikes women’s soccer) were the Canada West first and third stars of the week, respectively.
The CIS No. 5-ranked Cascades (5-0-1) are on the road again this week to face the MacEwan Griffins (2-3-1) on Saturday and the Mount Royal Cougars (1-4-1) on Sunday. Both games kick off at noon Mountain time (11 a.m. Pacific) and will be webcast at canadawest.tv (pay per view).
