UFV Cascades Men’s Volleyball defeat CEGEP Limoilou Titans, 3-1, in friendly CCAA exhibition match

Abbotsford, BC…The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades (PACWEST) defeated CEGEP Limoilou Titans (RSEQ), ranked 7th in the CCAA top ten poll, 3-1, in an exhibition friendly match at the Envision Athletic Centre.  The Titans, 9-1, currently tied for first place with CEGEP Outaouais in Division One of the RSEQ, are on a ten-day road trip to the West Coast where they playing several exhibition-friendly volleyball matches against UBC-O Heat, Capilano Blues, VIU Mariners, Camosun Chargers and UFV. The set scores were 21-25, 25-22, 25-23 and 25-21.   

 

The Titans narrowly won the first set as both teams were very competitive with long rallies.  The Cascades hung in there and led several times before Limoilou won the final four points of the set.  The Cascades opened at large lead in the second set and held on for a three point victory to even the match at one set each. UFV spotted the Titans a five point lead midway through the third set, before storming back with eight unanswered points en route to winning the set by two. UFV opened a quick five point lead in the fourth and final set and never looked back as they opened the second half of the volleyball season with a four set victory.

 

“I was very happy with our performance tonight. Everyone contributing to the win; it is a great start to the second semester,” commented Greg Russell, head coach of the UFV Cascades.             

The team will start the second half of the PACWEST regular season tomorrow night in New Westminster, against the Douglas College Royals. UFV currently sits one game out of a PACWEST Conference post season berth at 1-11.  UFV trails the CBC Bearcats, at 2-10, for the sixth and final spot in the six team tournament to be hosted by COTR, in Cranbrook, BC. The Cascades are 0-2 against Douglas College this year losing 3-0 and 3-1 at the EAC before the holiday break.  The Royals are 13-1 and in first place.
