Volleyball teams split with Douglas College, women win, men lose

UFV Cascades defeat Douglas College Royals, 3-0, in PACWEST action at the EAC

Abbotsford, BC…The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s volleyball team defeated Douglas College Royals, 3-0, at the Envision Athletic Centre to improve their PACWEST regular season record to 10-1.  The Cascades, ranked third in the CCAA top ten poll, sit one game ahead of the VIU Mariners (9-2) with one match remaining before the holiday break.  The scores tonight were 25-16, 25-17 and 25-14. 

The Cascades played a very exciting match tonight.  They led from the opening serve to final as they showed why they have been nationally ranked for the past two seasons.  UFV’s coach Dennis Bokenfohr was able to play his entire team, all-stars Kayla Bruce, Surrey, BC, Brittany Stewart, Walnut Grove, BC and Krista Hogewoning, Delta, BC led the way as they quickly built up a lead in the first set and enabled Bokenfohr to slowly put all his reserves in the game for valuable regular season experience.    

“A fun game for the ladies to play. It was  a contribution from everyone and they were able to make positive impacts on the outcome. Kate (Bilodeau) had a complete game, was very effective both offensively and defensively. With continual complete team development, the ladies are showing belief in their training,” said Bokenfohr.

 

UFV will host Douglas tomorrow night in the final PACWEST regular season game before the holiday break, game time is set for 6pm.

 

Men’s Volleyball

UFV Cascades fall to Douglas College, at EAC, 3-0

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s volleyball team were defeated by Douglas College Royals, in PACWEST regular season action, at the Envision Athletic Centre.  The Cascades conference record falls to 1-10, with one match remaining tomorrow night against Douglas College, at the EAC, game time is set for 8pm.  The set scores from tonight were 25-19, 25-15 and 25-18.

The Cascades were led by Trevor Nickel, Abbotsford, BC and Victor Zych, Port Coquitlam, BC both recording 6 kills, Connor Nickel, Abbotsford, BC had 3 blocks for UFV tonight.
Douglas played a consistent game, so props to them.  Tomorrow will be another battle, and we’re looking forward to rising up to the challenge ahead of us’ commented Greg Russell, UFV head coach.
