Abbotsford, BC…The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades went walking through the Abbotsford community last night and while most where knocking on doors for “treats” the Cascades student-athletes were asking for non-perishable donations for the Abbotsford Food Bank. The project was very successful as they were able to fill 31 boxes with food ten more than last year’s walk n’ knock.
The walk and knock was headed by Alexa McCarthy, a fourth year Kinesiology major, and members of all nine UFV varsity teams. “Besides women’s basketball, we had help from all the teams, it was a great department effort,” said Chilliwack, BC native.
The department intends to set up several boxes in the Envision Athletic Centre lobby (gymnasium on Abbotsford campus) for members of the UFV community to drop off can goods when they come to work out at the centre, or watch UFV basketball and volleyball in November, these boxes are going to be there until Wednesday, December19th.
Anyone wishing to donate can drop off non-perishable goods at the EAC or go directly to the Abbotsford Food Bank at www.abbotsfordfoodbank.com
