The University of the Fraser Valley women’s rugby sevens team wraps up its Canada West campaign this weekend, as they head over to Victoria for the Canada West Women’s Rugby Sevens Series finale.
The third of three tournaments in the series, hosted by the Victoria Vikes, runs Saturday and Sunday, and will determine the teams’ final placings.
The Vikes are the front-runners for the series championship, having won the previous two tourneys hosted by the Alberta Pandas (Jan. 20-21) and the Cascades (Feb. 10-11).
The UFV club, meanwhile, sits sixth out of seven in the standings. The Cascades won their first-ever game at their home tournament, defeating the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.
“The girls are really looking forward to it, and I’m so proud of their determination in getting ready from the last tournament and putting things into place,” UFV head coach Jen Ross said, looking ahead to the UVic event. “The girls are looking for big results this weekend, and everyone’s quite sad that it’s winding down, wishing we had more opportunity to keep playing.”
