For the second time this season, Nick Bruce of the UFV Cascades has been named the PACWEST men’s volleyball athlete of the week.
Bruce, a left side from Surrey, B.C., continued his string of sensational senior-year performances last weekend as the Cascades swept the Douglas Royals on the road. In Friday’s four-set triumph, he racked up a team-high 14 kills to go with five blocks, three aces and seven digs. On Saturday, the Cascades authored a clinical three-set victory, with Bruce contributing seven kills and eight digs. For the weekend, the Fleetwood Park Secondary grad racked up 29 total points, good for a 4.14 points-per-set average, while hitting .386.
Bruce also earned the conference’s athlete of the week nod back on Oct. 31. He’s the only player in the PACWEST to currently rank among the top 15 in the league in total offence (4.04 points/set, fifth), kills (3.27/set, fifth), aces (0.31/set, 11th), blocks (0.47/set, T-11) and digs (1.84/set, 15th).
The Cascades men’s volleyball team is ranked No. 14 in the nation, and their 8-6 record is good for third place in the PACWEST.
