Cascades women’s basketball hosts charity camp

The UFV women’s team wraps up the weekend by hosting a basketball camp for high school girls on Sunday, with all proceeds going towards the purchase of sports equipment for needy kids in Tecate, Mexico.

The project is the brainchild of Cascades third-year forward Taylor Claggett, who participated in a service trip to Tecate in June and noticed that kids there had very limited access to sports equipment.

“The fact our team has so many connections with younger basketball players through schools and clubs, I thought kids here might want to come out and help support a great cause,” she explained.

The camp runs from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, and is for girls in Grades 9-12. Admission is by donation (minimum $10, cash only). Participants can email Claggett (taylor.claggett10@hotmail.com) in advance to let her know you’ll be attending, but registration is also available at the door on Sunday.
